save on solar-picture

Save on solar. You just like every other homeowner that hasn’t gone solar yet is thinking where is the savings, how am I save on solar, and is this realty worth it. Truth is Big energy, the utility company’s, homeowners and business’s are already switching to solar. Fun fact even the White House is putting solar panels on there roof.  A few key components about the switch to powering your home with the sun is one its free. It doesn’t require fossil fuels or large amounts of power to transfer the power to you the consumer. it doesn’t require trucks running for maintenance on a daily basis or when the grid goes down it has to be repaired.

Big energy has factored this into there own energy plans and so are most homeowners. So where are we saving money. So right off the bat how much power are you using? If your trying to save by going solar the first step i always say is look inside your home. Where are you using the majority of your power. It’s probably the living room, the kitchen and most of all the lights above your head. I tell homeowners switch to an LED bulb, you will immediately see a decrease in your current energy usage and this means savings in your pocket. Another way to save even more money is a smart strip in your living room or wherever the majority of your electronics are plugged in. This will eliminate that little red light on the bottom of your tavern running 24/7 or your child’s xbox power light from remaining on all night. It doesn’t sound like much but remember those items are always using power. So we’ve now started reducing your electrical footprint inside the home now lets take a look at your new system.

As a solar specialist my motto has always been its the same amount of power just a fraction of the cost. If you take a look at a bill from 10 years ago and look at the same bill today you will see an increase in your utility companies bill. Your using the same mount of energy and your paying more. In Virginia big utility is looking at a 45% increase in price per kilowatt hour by 2030. You can see there article on our page.

What does that mean for you the customer? Well if your paying lets say 10 cents per kilowatt hour now in 2030 your gonna be paying $14.50 per kWh. So if you do the math, lets say your using 1000 kWh. At 10 cents or your current bill your paying roughly 100$ a month for power. Now time goes by your thinking I’m saving money I’ve switched to LED i turn off all my lights and appliances etc. well in 2030 your using the same power and now your paying $ 145 a month for the same power. This is called a variable rate. The utility company can raise your current rate whenever they want, add fees that the call center doesn’t even know why it was added to your bill etc.  So realistically your not saving even by adding energy efficient modifications to your home in the long run. Now lets take a look at solar and how your saving your hard earned money. First off your new solar payment for your system is a fixed rate. That means you put your panels on your roof your using the same power your bill remains the same during the duration of your purchased system.

When the energy company raises there price per kilowatt hour you don’t see that price increase in your pocket which in turns means your already saving by going solar. Some day 1 your already saving money which can be spent on your kitchen renovation, add that pool you always wanted or put that down payment on the car you’ve always wanted. Depending on the payment plan you choose your future energy usage can be paid in full within 10 years to 25 years depending on how you want to pay for your system. The super energy independent consumers pay for there system in cash which means cash discount & they own there power day one.

Now looking at the degradation of the solar panel you have purchased with your solar installer your hoping to offset your utility forever right? Higher wattage & premium quality panels are key to saving you money. Yes you pay more for them but the price up front is better then having to replace your panels because they aren’t producing what you need to power your home in 20-30 years. The goal for every homeowner is to save money and eliminate there utility bill and become energy independent. So key factors are #1 is going solar cheaper then what I’m doing now? The answer is 100% yes. Are my monthly payments for my solar system going to be cheaper then what I’m doing now?

In some cases depending on your energy usage it might be slightly higher then switching to solar now. But now there’s a start and end date with your utility, in a few years you’d be paying more then what your paying now & you finally have a return on investment by switching to solar. And last but not least #3 Once you’ve paid for your solar panels and your system is powering your home there is no bill! You are energy independent your saving money every month and if you sell your home guess what your home just increased on average 4% and the person moving in has $0.00 utility bill.

These are just a few key components to save on solar. Solar savings and solar incentives are a real thing its not a gimmick the sun is shining everyday, the utility companies are going solar because they know its cheaper then they’re fossil fueled industry currently and your helping the environment. I hope by reading this from a current solar homeowner and solar energy advocate you see where the saving really are by switching to a solar powered home. If your wondering how much sun does my home get google total sunlight hours in your area. Stay Sunny & Start Saving by switching to Solar today!
